About The Wedding
Melinda and Blake had just moved to Atlanta when they began planning their wedding, and needed help hiring all their vendors for their elegant yet relaxed event. After lots of worrying about the weather (with lots of reassurance on my part!), the ceremony took place in Melinda's dream location: in front of the gorgeous Japanese maple at the Houston Mill House garden. Although the day was sweltering, the guests didn't mind, and used their hand fans to keep cool while Melinda and Blake exchanged personalized vows, to the strains of violin played by another of Melinda's good friends. A cocktail hour on the Silverbell Terrace at the adjacent hotel followed, while Melinda and Blake took lots of photos around the grounds. The florist brought the outdoors in, with a gorgeous floral swag above the fireplace, and greenery decorating each sconce throughout the pavilion. He and Melinda came up with a unique idea to name each table after a specific flower, and have vases of that flower as the centerpiece for each table. One of Melinda's friends hand-drew and painted in watercolor a table name card as well as seating assignment cards for each guest. After entering the pavilion to find individual favors of Vermont maple syrup at their places (to honor Melinda's heritage), guests enjoyed a buffet dinner complete with lots of vegan options (including a vegan cake!) for Melinda, and then danced the night away until Melinda and Blake departed in the light of sparklers to an Alaskan honeymoon.

My Favorite Detail
The officiant was a good friend of Melinda's. I found out at the rehearsal that she was actually returning the favor, as Melinda had officiated her wedding a year earlier! As college friends, they had agreed to officiate each other's weddings, and they made good on that promise!

My Favorite Moment
The flower girls and ring bearer were Melinda's cousins' children. The girls in particular were fascinated with Melinda and would not leave her side, especially when she was putting her gown on. I love seeing little girls' wonder at brides - I always wonder if they will remember those feelings later at their own weddings.
