Amanda’s Planning Journey: DIY Hair and Makeup – A Do?

Let’s just say I am a people pleaser (“I” being Amanda here at Circle of Love Weddings). If someone does something for me, and I don’t like it, I will generally dissemble and say I do in order to be nice and save their feelings. With a wedding, that becomes a problem. You can just imagine all of the things that could go wrong because I won’t put my foot down and tell it like it is. Don’t worry, I am getting better. I do, however, know how to avoid some of the problem on my wedding day.

I am doing my own hair and makeup (I can hear Daria gasping from here). I know what you’re thinking, “It’s not going to turn out the way you want it to,” “It will be a last-minute disaster” and “tsk, tsk, tsk.” Let me reassure you, I am not going rogue.

I have been taking lessons from a makeup artist. She has shown me how to do all the crazy good things with makeup that make you look incredible in front of a camera and in real life so that I can do my makeup exactly how I want it on my wedding day. The pressure is off of me to say, “Why yes, I do love the blue eyeshadow touching my eyebrows…”

That being said, hair is another thing I am quite particular about. I love doing my own hair and I think it looks its very best when I style it. I even prefer it over the salon-fresh look. However, I do not know how to style up-dos. THANK YOU LAUREN CONRAD. I am obsessed with Lauren Conrad’s blog, The Beauty Department. If you have an up-do in mind, she will have a step-by-step tutorial for it! I literally practice different hairstyles every day, and they turn out amazing! My fiancé cannot stop gawking at my hair!!

So if you are like me, and would just feel more comfortable doing it yourself on YOUR big day, then do it! Just please make sure you know what you are doing!
